Why I Created Molly's Animal Sanctuary
Every sanctuary begins with a story. This is ours.
A Letter From My Heart
There are moments in life that quietly change everything.
For me, one of those moments began with a little Shih Tzu named Molly.
For more than twelve years, Molly was my constant companion. She never knew she was teaching me lessons that would one day become the foundation of an animal sanctuary. She wasn't famous, and in the eyes of the world she was just one little dog. But to me, she was extraordinary.
She simply loved without condition, trusted completely, and reminded me every day that every life—no matter how small—has immeasurable value.
When Molly left my life, she left a silence that words can never truly describe. Like so many people who lose someone they love deeply, I found myself searching for a way to honour her—not by looking backwards, but by allowing her love to continue changing lives.
Throughout my own life, I have believed that true success is measured not simply by what we achieve, but by how many lives we help along the way.
Then Something Changed Everything
Quite by chance, I came across videos showing animals being sold at Galiff Street Market in Kolkata.
I watched tiny puppies and kittens crowded together in cages, separated from their mothers and exposed to heat, fear and uncertainty.
I couldn't stop thinking about them.
The question that stayed with me wasn't simply,
"Why is this happening?"
It became,
"How have so many of us walked past for so many years without truly noticing?"
I realised that, in my own way, I had looked away too.
That day, I made a promise.
I would build something that would give vulnerable animals the safety, dignity and compassion they deserve.
That promise became Molly's Animal Sanctuary.
Our journey begins in Kolkata, India, but my vision reaches much further than one city or one country.
My hope is that Molly's Animal Sanctuary will inspire compassion wherever it is needed and encourage people to notice the vulnerable lives that too often go unseen.
Every rescue begins with someone choosing not to walk away.
What I discovered at Galiff Street didn't only make me want to help rescue animals.
It made me want to understand why this suffering was happening — and what could be done to change it.
I realised that rescue alone could never be the whole answer.
Someone also needed to ask questions.
Someone needed to document what was happening.
Someone needed to help people see what these animals could not tell us themselves.
And so another part of Molly's legacy began.
The Animal Truth Project
The Animal Truth Project is our awareness and advocacy initiative — created to shine a light on animal suffering, document genuine welfare concerns, educate the public and encourage meaningful change.
Molly's Animal Sanctuary and The Animal Truth Project have different roles, but they share one purpose:
**One gives them a voice.
The other gives them somewhere safe to go.**
Every rescue begins with someone choosing not to walk away.
Sometimes changing the world begins with one person choosing to notice.
What We Believe
Every rescued animal deserves safety.
Every frightened animal deserves patience.
Every hungry animal deserves food.
Every injured animal deserves professional veterinary care.
Every forgotten animal deserves to be loved.
The Promise Lives On
The promise I made to one small dog now belongs to every animal still waiting for hope.
Some of the animals who come into our care will recover and find loving forever homes.
Others will remain with us for the rest of their lives.
Every one of them will be treated with dignity, patience and unconditional love. Because every life matters, and every life deserves to feel safe.
Her greatest gift wasn't the love she gave me.
It was the love she taught me to give others.
People often tell me that Molly is the hero of this story.
I don't think she would understand that.
She never tried to change the world.
She simply showed me that the greatest kindness is often found in the smallest moments—offering comfort, trusting completely and loving without expecting anything in return.
The sanctuary is my promise that her love will continue protecting lives long after her own.
Whether you become a supporter, a volunteer, a veterinary partner or simply someone who believes compassion matters, you have already become part of that promise.
Together, I hope we can create a world where kindness is no longer the exception.
A world where no life is considered too small.
Every life we save will carry a little piece of Molly's legacy.
If Molly could speak today, I think she would simply wag her tail and welcome every frightened animal home.
